Passion Project Scope: Surface Pattern Designs
Client Project Scope: Art Licensing

The Challenge

Here’s the story of how my little passion project blossomed into art that was licensed three times! What started as a simple idea quickly turned into an exciting adventure for my husband and me—whoops! When I get a vision in my head, it’s tough for me to resist bringing it to life. When we bought our house in Pennsylvania I realized I didn’t have any art of mine hanging in our home. Our spare bedroom was feeling a bit drab, and I wanted to create a warm, inviting space for our guests while also highlighting some of my artwork. So, challenge accepted! My husband and I teamed up to transform our spare bedroom into something special together!

The Goal

My vision for the project was to paint our spare bedroom, featuring an accent wall with trim and incorporating three pieces of floral art in the center of each sectioned wall. The room was completely empty, with drab closet doors, and we also needed to replace the old ceiling fan.

The Solution

As I envisioned the interior of the spare bedroom, I was also busy creating artwork for three frames to adorn the accent wall. I wanted the room to feel light and airy, incorporating warm colors like pink, yellow, burnt sienna, and gold finishes. To contrast with the more masculine green wall, I decided to include a floral element. I began sketching various floral arrangements in vases, and once I settled on the designs, I dove into exploring color and texture. I was delighted with how the arrangements turned out, so I quickly printed them using my Canon printer and mounted them in elegant gold frames.

The Results

Once our spare room was finished, I started wondering how I could transform this passion project into something beyond just prints for that space. I began thinking about how to use my floral arrangements to create greeting cards, even making a special one for my mom for Mother's Day. I explored patterns for bags, textiles, and wrapping paper. It was such a joy to take what began as a separate idea and bring it to life in various categories.

The mother’s day artwork below was eventually licensed three times to Eccolo, Pictura, and Designscapes for trinket trays, notebooks, and greeting cards!

It just goes to show that if you create what you want to see in the world, most likely others want to see it too! Follow your passions and create what speaks to you because you never know what might become your next best seller!
