Advertising Week 2021
Project Scope: Illustration, Graphic Design & On-Site Art Direction
Advertising Week is a global event that brings together marketing, advertising, tech, and brand experts from all over the world. It’s packed with exciting daytime seminars and hands-on workshops led by some of the brightest minds in the industry. Plus, there are plenty of chances to network and enjoy world-class entertainment. When they approached me to help with signage design, event illustration and onsite art direction I was thrilled to say YES!
The Challenge
This project came just after COVID when in-person events were finally making a comeback. At that time, NYC felt like a bit of a ghost town after being hit so hard. When Frank and Clarissa from Advertising Week reached out to me, they needed assistance not only with event graphics and on-site art direction but also with illustrations that would celebrate the beauty and iconic landmarks of New York City.
The Goal
With Advertising Week being postponed due to COVID, the team wanted to make the return truly special by celebrating NYC's most iconic landmarks. The aim was to capture the magic and beauty that the city is known for, reigniting that sense of wonder and excitement we all cherished before the pandemic. By highlighting these beloved sites, we sought to create an atmosphere of joy and resilience, reminding everyone of the vibrant spirit of New York City and the unique experiences it offers.
The Solution
Create vibrant illustrations of NYC's iconic monuments to celebrate the joy of "being back" while staying true to the Advertising Week brand's look and feel. Design signage and promotional materials to support the Advertising Week 2021 event, which spanned an impressive 100,000 square feet at The Shops at Hudson Yards in NYC. Additionally, provide art direction on-site, collaborating with production and signage teams to ensure that the digital graphics seamlessly aligned with the installation plans.
The Results
I designed over 400 pieces of signage and promotional materials to support the Advertising Week 2021 event. This included illustrating five custom event-branded signs showcasing some of NYC’s most iconic locations, such as Central Park’s Fountain, Madison Avenue, the Radio City Music Hall Stage, Washington Square Arch, and Times Square. The illustrations were featured at the event and around the city in subways too! I spent eight days on-site at Hudson Yards in NYC, providing art direction and support—all while 26 weeks pregnant!
