Beerventuring Brand Identity
Project Scope: Brand Identity Design & Business Card Design
The Challenge
When Kristina first approached me, she had a fantastic vision for her blog. She wanted to capture her adventures of exploring breweries across the states, rating beers, and sharing her reviews. Her goal was to reflect the stunning mountains of the Pacific Northwest, where she lives, while also highlighting themes of travel and beer in her branding. I was excited and ready to tackle this challenge head-on!
The Goal
Kristina was uncertain about the copyright eligibility of “Beerventuring” and needed assistance confirming registered business names and copyright options, as well as exploring alternative name ideas. She also wanted a logo but didn’t fully grasp the importance of having a complete brand identity. I explained to her that I believe in creating logos within the context of a full brand identity. This includes elements like colors, typography, icons, brand messaging, backgrounds, and textures—all of which work together to convey a brand’s unique personality and values.
Here’s why I only provide brand identities for my clients and not just logos:
A LOGO IS JUST THE START
Alone, it doesn’t convey the full essence of a brand. A full brand identity ensures that all visual elements are consistent across different platforms and media, strengthening brand recognition.
A BRAND IDENTITY TELLS A STORY
Brand identities tell a story that goes beyond a logo, giving depth to the brand’s narrative creating a stronger relationship with customers.
PROFESSIONALISM & CREDIBILITY
A complete brand identity communicates professionalism and attention to detail which enhances the perceived value of the brand.
EMPOWERING CLIENTS
Providing my clients with a full brand identity including brand guidelines, empowers them with the tools to maintain a clear direction on how to apply their brand visuals and use their logo to ensure consistency.
After explaining these points to Kristina, she quickly realized the value of having a brand identity so we excitedly moved forward with making her vision a reality!
The Solution
Kristina and I first started with a brand deep dive where we discovered her core brand values and mission. This was so easy because Kristina was so clear on her vision for Beerventuring!
Here’s a breakdown of what our process looked like:
Brand Questionnaire Meeting: Discussed her brand questionnaire, dissect her brand values and mission as well as go over the timeline and what to expect. Afterward I looked into copyright and registered trade marks for her blog name “Beerventuring” as well as brainstorm taglines and brand statements to get a sense of the brand voice.
Moodboard & Color Palette: Following our meeting, I created a mood board and color palette for Kristina to help visualize what her brand identity could embody, reflecting her values and mission. This included typography treatments, imagery, textures, and illustrative elements that collectively conveyed the essence of her brand. We reviewed everything together to ensure we were on the same page and aligned in our vision.
Logo Design: I then created her primary logo, secondary logo, and brand marks, all inspired by the mood board and color palette we developed together. I usually provide my clients with one primary logo option, one secondary logo, and two brand marks, along with the opportunity for revisions. This approach allows clients to pick the logo or brand mark that fits best for different situations, making the process a lot less stressful. My clients often tell me how much they appreciate this method, especially since they came to me for guidance in the first place! With over 10 years of design experience, I help them make the best choice for their brand, drawing on insights from our brand questionnaire and mood board. I always prioritize client feedback and incorporate it as we develop the full brand identity together.
Brand Identity Design & Guidelines: This is the exciting part when everything comes together! I created several mockups that showcase her new brand identity while aligning with her brand values and mission. I also designed a comprehensive brand guideline document that covers the brand essence, key themes, colors, fonts, brand elements, imagery direction, and logo usage. Kristina was thrilled with how we incorporated the mountains and redwoods of the Pacific Northwest, the road symbolizing travel, and of course a fun little beer icon. Her logo is playful and reflects the adventurous spirit of her Beerventuring journey!
Final Delivery & Download: After Kristina reviewed her Brand Guidelines, I scheduled a meeting to go over all her brand assets and how to use them effectively. I organized each individual element into easily accessible clips, allowing Kristina to use them in Canva or wherever she likes. All assets were provided as JPEGs and PNGs with transparent backgrounds. Additionally, I included mockups from the brand guidelines that she could use on social media. She was excited to have everything conveniently downloadable through a Dropbox link I provided!
The Results
I'm excited to share that Kristina and I successfully registered her dream blog name, “Beerventuring”! She was absolutely thrilled with her new branding and couldn’t wait to share it with the world. To help her spread the word, she asked me to create some eye-catching business cards.
I happily designed the cards, ensuring they captured the essence of her brand perfectly. Then, I had them printed and shipped directly to her using my favorite printer, Cat Print. The whole process was a breeze, and it felt great to see her excitement when the cards arrived! It’s such a joy to help bring her vision to life and give her the tools to share her adventures with others.
